Sista Afia urges artists to disinfect microphones during performances

Sista Afia microphone hygiene performer health Ghanaian music industry sanitization

Ghanaian singer Sista Afia has called on fellow musical artists to prioritize hygiene by disinfecting microphones before use during live performances. In recent social media posts, the singer expressed concern regarding the practice of sharing equipment across multiple events, noting that performers often sing, speak, and breathe directly into microphones used by many others.

While acknowledging that illness following a show cannot be definitively linked to equipment contact, Sista Afia suggested that taking precautions is a sensible measure for health. She recommended that artists carry microphone-safe disinfectant sprays or sanitizing wipes in their bags. Additionally, she suggested that those with the financial means should consider bringing their own microphones to performances to minimize exposure to germs.
