Sisters of Mercy celebrate 180 years in Western Australia
The Mercy College community in Koondoola recently gathered to commemorate the 180th anniversary of the arrival of the Sisters of Mercy in Western Australia. The event marked the historical significance of the order's presence in the region, which began on January 8, 1846, when six pioneering sisters arrived in Fremantle from Ireland.
To mark the anniversary, the college blessed and opened two new facilities: the Dublin technologies building and the Comfort Café school cafeteria. The celebration included the presence of 12 Sisters of Mercy and served as a tribute to the legacy of faith, education, and service established by the order since its founding by Catherine McAuley.
