Sistiana and Tarvisio face traffic chaos due to H4 highway closure
Severe traffic congestion and road blockages have impacted the areas of Sistiana and Tarvisio due to the closure of the H4 highway in Slovenia. This closure has forced a significant volume of motorists to divert to local roads, particularly the Sistiana state road near Monfalcone, leading to massive saturation and long queues.
Data from Autostrade Alto Adriatico indicates a growing trend in transit, with July figures reaching 4.2 million compared to 4.1 million the previous year. During the first weekend of August, 374,700 passages were recorded, up from 360,000 in 2025. The congestion has also affected the A23 motorway, specifically at the Ugovizza barrier, and has caused delays in Duino and Tarvisio. Stefano Mazzolini, Vice President of the Regional Council, has called for alternative mobility solutions to alleviate the impact on mountain communities.
