Sitges Film Festival 2026 Highlights 'Carrie' 50th Anniversary and Restored Horror Classics

The 59th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival will run from 8 October to 18 October 2026 in Barcelona. Organisers have made the 50th anniversary of Brian De Palma’s horror classic ‘Carrie’ the festival’s leitmotif, featuring a new 4K restoration of the film and the first episode of Mike Flanagan’s TV adaptation. The programme also commemorates the Spanish classic ‘¿Quién puede matar a un niño?’ and the 30th anniversary of Alejandro Amenábar’s ‘Tesis’, with 4K versions of each.

A slate of new titles will debut, including works by Nicolas Winding Refn, Guillaume Canet, Takashi Shimizu and Yeon Sang‑ho, as well as the premiere of Carles Torrens’ sequel ‘Apocalypse Z: Un nuevo mundo’, which will reach Amazon for Halloween. Restored genre landmarks such as David Cronenberg’s ‘Scanners’, Ken Russell’s ‘The Devils’, John Guillermin’s ‘King Kong’ (1976) and Ruggero Deodato’s ‘Cannibal Holocaust’ will also be screened.

The festival has received close to 3 800 film submissions, a record, and highlighted the strong presence of women directors. “Carrie is a classic of Brian De Palma, a fundamental film,” said artistic director Àngel Sala.
