Sitges Film Festival 2026 showcases diverse cinematic works

The Sitges Film Festival 2026 has showcased a diverse range of cinematic works, spanning from early film history to modern animation and historical thrillers.

In a session focused on early macabre cinema, the 1930 short film ‘Celles qui s’en font’ by Germaine Dulac was highlighted for its technical mastery and dynamic use of light and movement. The session included various films dating between 1895 and 1930, featuring works by creators such as Georges Méliès and Alfred Clark.

Recent screenings also featured ‘Wildwood’, a stop-motion animated film from Laika directed by Travis Knight. Based on the book by Colin Meloy, the film follows a teenager navigating a magical forest while addressing mature themes such as grief and suicide. Additionally, Kiyoshi Kurosawa presented ‘The Samurai and the Prisoner’, a political thriller set in 16th-century Japan involving feudal lord Murashide Araki and military leader Oda Obunaga.
