Sitges issues sanctions for improper waste disposal and incivility
The Sitges City Council has issued 28 sanctions for anti-social behavior during 2026. These penalties were applied following documented cases of improper waste disposal, such as leaving trash bags in public bins instead of using the correct containers and dumping commercial waste on public streets. An additional 30 cases are currently being processed.
Cristina Guiu Navarro, the Councilor for Image and Public Space, stated that while sanctions are not the primary option, the council must act to protect community coexistence and the town's image. In addition to waste issues, the Local Police have filed 153 reports over the last two years regarding various forms of incivility, primarily involving alcohol consumption and public urination, as well as five reports for graffiti.
The municipality aims to balance awareness campaigns with enforcement of local ordinances. The council reminded residents of available services, including specific collection systems for bulky items, pruning, cooking oil, clothing, and batteries.
