Sitia Fire Station upgrade remains delayed despite parliamentary questioning

During a parliamentary session, Katerina Spyridaki, the PASOK – Movement for Change MP for Lasithi, questioned the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Evangelos Tournas, regarding the delayed upgrade of the Sitia Fire Station.

Spyridaki criticized the Minister for providing evasive answers and general descriptions of Fire Service procedures rather than specific timelines or progress updates. She noted that despite positive recommendations and official Ministry documents, the upgrade has remained unresolved for seven years.

The MP highlighted the region's challenging geography, including difficult terrain, strong winds, and large distances, which exacerbate the impact of frequent wildfires. She emphasized the need for better prevention and support for firefighters, volunteers, and local residents to ensure community safety.
