Sitia Mayor attends Interreg cooperation event at Thessaloniki International Fair

The Mayor of Sitia, George Zervakis, attended an event at the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair focused on European cross-border cooperation. The event, titled ‘Interreg: Five Borders, Twenty-Six Regions of Cooperation, One Common Europe’, was organized by the General Secretariat for ESPA, the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, and the Interreg 2021–2027 Special Service.

The discussions highlighted the importance of the five Interreg cross-border programs managed by the Interreg 2021–2027 Managing Authority, which involve Greece with Albania, Bulgaria, Italy, Cyprus, and North Macedonia. The programs aim to address shared challenges and create tangible results for local communities through joint solutions.

Participants also discussed the prospects for European territorial cooperation beyond 2027, emphasizing that strengthening regional cooperation is vital for sustainable and balanced development. The Mayor’s participation underscores the Municipality of Sitia’s interest in utilizing European funding tools and fostering partnerships to create new opportunities for the local region.
