SITIAVW rejects Volkswagen request to extend work shifts
The Independent Union of Volkswagen Automotive Industry Workers (SITIAVW) has rejected a proposal from Volkswagen to extend the second work shift on September 22. The company requested to extend the shift from 11:30 p.m. to 2:20 a.m. the following morning.
SITIAVW stated that the request violates workers' rights and the existing collective bargaining agreement, specifically citing clauses 37 and 38. This development occurs as labor negotiations for the year continue, following a recent rejection by workers of a 10.04 percent general wage increase. Dialogue between the union and the company resumed on September 21 in Mexico City, as a strike notice is currently set to expire on October 2.
