Sittong Aura homestay investigation following bonfire burn incident
A newlywed woman, Nikita Saha, suffered severe burns during a bonfire at the Sittong Aura homestay in the Darjeeling region. The incident occurred on September 13 while the couple was celebrating their recent marriage.
According to a police complaint filed by her husband, Souvik Das, a worker allegedly poured an unidentified liquid onto the flames, causing a sudden flare-up that engulfed Saha. Das also reported sustaining burns to his hand. He has accused the homestay of negligence, claiming the property lacked fire extinguishers and failed to provide immediate assistance, forcing the couple to wait nearly an hour before beginning a three-hour journey to Siliguri for medical care.
The manager of Sittong Aura, Dipen Tamang, denied the allegations of negligence, stating that the staff made every possible effort to rescue the victim. The Kurseong Police Station is currently investigating the matter.
