Situbondo Forest Fire Consumes 4 Hectares of Jati Forest
On 2 August 2026, a forest and land fire (karhutla) erupted in the Jati forest along the Arak‑Arak road in Gunung Malang village, Suboh district, Situbondo regency, East Java, Indonesia. The blaze burned approximately four hectares of dry Jati leaves before being contained.
A joint response team comprising BPBD Situbondo, BPBD Bondowoso, Besuki fire brigade, Perhutani staff, local police and social‑service officials extinguished the fire using manual tools, water sprays and firebreaks. No injuries or fatalities were reported, and the site was declared safe by the evening. Police and Perhutani are investigating the cause, while authorities urged residents to avoid discarding cigarette butts or igniting fires during the dry season.
