Siu-Hien Lee details decades-long feud with Stephen Chow
Veteran actor Siu-Hien Lee has detailed his long-standing grievance with actor Stephen Chow in a recent interview, revealing behind-the-scenes details regarding the casting of the 1988 film ‘Thunderbolt’. Lee disclosed that Chow was actually the third choice for the role, following Tony Leung Ka-fai, who was unavailable due to scheduling, and Wang Shiqi, whose management requested a salary that was deemed too high.
Lee stated that he had to overcome internal opposition from film companies to cast Chow, who was working at TVB at the time. While Lee acknowledged that Chow was punctual and hardworking early in his career, he claimed that Chow’s attitude changed significantly after winning a Golden Horse Award for his performance in ‘Thunderbolt’.
According to Lee, the relationship deteriorated to the point where he felt unable to work with Chow during the filming of ‘Dragon Family’, leading him to essentially “give up on this person.” Lee expressed bitterness that Chow does not view him as a mentor or benefactor, remarking that Chow “treats me like a fool.”
