Sivas begins first phase of Kızılırmak redevelopment project
The Sivas municipality has launched the first phase of the Kızılırmak Project, a long‑awaited urban renewal scheme that has been envisioned for 40 years. The work, funded by a 239 million‑TL open tender contract, saw the selected contractor set up construction sites and commence field activities.
Mayor Dr. Adem Uzun said the initial stage, which includes new food‑court areas, sports facilities, walking and jogging tracks, and a large green space, is targeted for completion by the end of the year. A key element is the full restoration of the historic Eğri Bridge to create a new tourism attraction. Preparations for the second phase tender are already underway.
The project aims to revitalize the city’s centre, enhance cultural heritage, and boost local tourism and commerce.
