Sivas explores new commercial uses for regional flora

Local artisans and producers in Sivas, Turkey, are finding innovative ways to commercialize regional flora. Following the successful creation of madımak ice cream, local cologne maker Turhan Toka has developed a cologne scented with madımak, a plant central to Sivas's culinary identity and folk songs. Toka aims to establish a unique scent that represents the province, similar to how other Turkish cities have signature fragrances.

Simultaneously, there is a growing discussion regarding the economic potential of the region's wild rosehip. While rosehip is widely harvested in the mountainous areas of districts like Suşehri and Gemerek for jams, marmalades, and teas, observers note a lack of a strong, unified brand for Sivas rosehip products. Experts suggest that transitioning from simple home production to a professional brand—modeled after successful regional examples like Gümüşhane’s rosehip juice—could significantly boost the local rural economy.
