Sivas folk music concert to be held in Istanbul

The “Cumhuriyete Giden Yol: Sivas” concert will be held on Friday, September 4, at 20:00 at the Atatürk Kültür Merkezi in Taksim, Istanbul. Organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Sivaslılar Eğitim, Kültür ve Yardımlaşma Vakfı, the event commemorates the 107th anniversary of the Republic.

Under the direction of conductor Seher Çelik, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Folk Music Choir will perform various folk songs from seven different regions of Turkey. The program features soloists including Aynur Erdoğan, Çimen Yalçın, Hamdiye Erol, Neşe Demir, Cumali Özkaya, Gürkan Soran, İrfan Yıldırım, and Özenç Özdemir.

A highlight of the evening will be traditional halay dance performances featuring masters from Sivas. For the first time in Istanbul, Sivas halay will be performed accompanied by traditional instruments, including the Abdurrahman and Karahisar halay styles, to showcase the musical and folkloric heritage of Sivas.
