Sivas investigation continues into disappearance of 11-month-old Büşra Balıkçı

An investigation is ongoing into the disappearance of 11-month-old Büşra Balıkçı, who went missing on October 10, 2026, in the Göndüren village of Divriği, Sivas. Despite 16 days of search efforts involving gendarmerie, AFAD, and drones, the infant's whereabouts remain unknown.

Authorities have arrested the child's parents, Yusuf and Elif Balıkçı, on charges of intentionally killing a child descendant. Additionally, four relatives—Rahime Budak, Özcan Budak, Mithat Balıkçı, and Mehmet Resul Balıkçı—were imprisoned for destroying evidence and protecting a criminal.

The case is marked by conflicting testimonies. Elif Balıkçı initially reported the disappearance but later claimed the baby might have been sold to settle her husband's debts. The children of the family also alleged the baby was given away to satisfy a debt. A suspect identified by the children, Mehmet K., was released under judicial control after HTS records failed to show criminal activity.
