Sivas knife-making tradition reaches fourth generation

In Sivas, Turkey, a 150-year-old family tradition of knife making has reached its fourth generation. Erdoğan Misci, who has been involved in the profession for approximately 80 years, continues the craft alongside his grandson, Uğur Misci.

While the family once consisted of five siblings all practicing the trade, Erdoğan Misci is now the sole remaining practitioner among them. Due to his age, he has shifted his focus primarily toward the buying and selling of knives. However, Uğur Misci aims to preserve the traditional, fully handmade aspect of Sivas knives, working to ensure the craft survives despite increasing mechanization.

The family strives to maintain the unique forms and classical models passed down by previous masters, applying traditional techniques while incorporating modern updates to keep the craft relevant.
