Sivas leads Turkey in oat and potato production

Sivas is a major contributor to Turkey's agricultural and livestock sectors, holding top national rankings in several crop categories. According to Hacı Çetindağ, President of the Sivas Chamber of Agriculture, the province ranks first in Turkey for oat and tritikale production, as well as potato production (both seed and table varieties).

Other notable production rankings include fourth place in korunga and cumin, fifth in sunflower (both oil and snack varieties), sixth in sugar beet—producing over 1 million tons to supply four factories—eighth in wheat, ninth in safflower, and tenth in apricot.

To further support the sector, plans are underway to transform the currently idle Pamukpınar Village Institute and its surrounding 450-acre land in Yıldızeli into an agricultural research and development station. This center, intended to be linked to Ankara, will focus on research for regional crops such as barley, wheat, and chickpeas. Discussions regarding the project have involved AK Party Group Chairman Abdullah Güler and relevant departmental teams from Ankara.
