Sivas Congress 107th anniversary commemorated across Turkey
Turkey is celebrating the 107th anniversary of the Sivas Congress, a pivotal moment in the Turkish National Struggle. Commemorative events in Sivas included ceremonial wreath-laying at the Atatürk Monument and a theatrical reenactment of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s arrival in the city in 1919.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan issued a message emphasizing that the spirit of national unity and solidarity demonstrated during the congress remains a vital shield against modern threats to the state and nation. He noted that the congress was a historical turning point where various national forces united under a common ideal of independence.
Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı also participated in the ceremonies, linking the historical struggle for independence to modern goals of food security and agricultural strength. Various political figures and local officials attended the events, which highlighted the congress's role in establishing the foundations of the Republic.
