Sivas Municipality opens new basalt quarry in Çerçideresi

Sivas Municipality has officially opened a new basalt quarry in the Çerçideresi region and completed its first shipment of materials. The facility is part of a strategic initiative to increase the municipality's self-sufficiency and reduce reliance on external material suppliers amid rising costs.

Mayor Dr. Adem Uzun stated that the basalt produced at the Çerçideresi site will be primarily used for the upper layers of road construction to ensure more durable and high-quality infrastructure. This follows previous quarry operations in the Tecer and İşhan regions, which support general infrastructure and road works.

The project was developed through a collaboration with Sivas Cumhuriyet University, utilizing scientific research from the Mining Engineering Department to identify basalt reserves and implement the facility.
