Sivas scrap worker disputes reward for 128 historical artifacts

Mehmet Özdemir, a scrap metal worker in the Gürün district of Sivas, Turkey, has reported a dispute regarding the reward for 128 historical artifacts found at a recycling facility.

Approximately five months ago, Özdemir discovered a collection consisting of 102 coins, 11 rings, 7 objects, 3 statues, 2 seals, 1 arrowhead, and other items. He turned the findings over to the Sivas Museum Directorate via the gendarmerie.

Following an evaluation, a commission set the reward at 30,000 TL. Özdemir contested this amount, expecting a higher percentage of the economic value. Upon his objection, he claims officials requested 16,000 TL from him to form a higher commission for re-evaluation. Özdemir has expressed his frustration with the demand for payment to appeal the decision.
