Sivas search continues for teenager missing after fatal car accident

A search continues for 17-year-old Esma Nur Hacıosmanoğlu, who disappeared in the Kelkit River following a car accident in the Koyulhisar district of Sivas on May 16, 2026. The accident occurred near the Kalebaşı Tunnel when a vehicle driven by U. Y. lost control and overturned. While 16-year-old Yağmur Hira Yazıcı died at the scene, Hacıosmanoğlu reportedly jumped into the river due to shock following the crash.

Investigations have revealed that the driver, U. Y., was operating the vehicle with a blood alcohol level of 0.68 promil. Mobile phone footage from inside the car shows the driver speeding despite repeated warnings from passengers to slow down.

After 114 days of search operations, no trace of Hacıosmanoğlu has been found. Her mother, İlknur Hacıosmanoğlu, has called for justice and the continuation of search efforts, expressing concerns regarding the circumstances of the accident and the initial response from medical and security personnel at the scene.
