Sivas sees 15% decline in traffic accidents amid broader safety crackdown
Sivas Governor Yılmaz Şimşek presented the province’s three‑month security report. Traffic accidents fell 15%, dropping from 456 incidents the previous year to 391 this year, after measures such as speed‑limit enforcement and seat‑belt campaigns.
During the same period, four drowning deaths were recorded, while forest and meadow fires fell more than 70% compared with the prior year. Tick‑borne Kyasanur‑Congo haemorrhagic fever cases decreased to 74, though six people died from the disease.
Law‑enforcement operations yielded further results: eleven drug‑related raids seized substances and led to 12 arrests; fourteen anti‑smuggling raids detained 14 organizers and returned 78 irregular migrants; three cyber‑fraud operations resulted in five suspects being detained. The governor called on residents to observe traffic safety rules and avoid fatigue while driving.
