Siverek revives traditional bulgur boiling custom

The Siverek Culture, Science and Art Association organized an event at Kanlıkuyu Square in the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa to revive the traditional bulgur boiling custom. The practice, which has faced decline due to modern technology and changing lifestyles, involved boiling bulgur in large cauldrons using traditional methods for approximately two hours before distributing it to participants.

Local residents attended the event wearing traditional clothing and celebrated with folk dances accompanied by drums and zurnas. Halil Yoğunlu, President of the association, stated that the organization has been working since 2020 to preserve Siverek’s cultural values, including traditions like yufka bread and kerge. Association Vice President Esat Ayata emphasized the importance of ensuring younger generations do not forget these culinary and social customs.
