Sivi, Chalkidiki water temporarily unsafe after microbiological findings

The drinking water supply in the settlement of Sivi, part of the Kassandra municipality in Chalkidiki, Greece, was declared temporarily unsuitable for human consumption after microbiological testing detected concerning parameters. The health authorities classified the findings as a potential public‑health risk.

The municipality responded by initiating emergency chlorination of the water network, conducting repeat sampling and laboratory analyses, and investigating the source of the contamination. Residents have been instructed not to use tap water for drinking, cooking, or tooth‑brushing until further notice and to rely on bottled water or water that has been boiled sufficiently. Contact numbers for the technical services department (23743 50129, 23740 23807, 23740 22243) were provided for inquiries. The municipality will issue an updated notice once the new test results confirm water safety.
