Sivri wastewater treatment plant remains operational after fire damage

The wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Sivri, Chalkidiki, remains fully operational despite damage sustained during a fire on August 13. Marios Papastefanou, the Deputy Mayor of Kassandra, confirmed that the biological treatment process is functioning normally and continues to serve the local sewage network without the need to transport waste elsewhere.

The damage reported is primarily electrical, affecting electrical circuits, panels, and pumping stations. Some structural damage was also noted in a kiosk and another building, though the financial impact is still being assessed. To ensure uninterrupted service, large generators are being used as a temporary measure while the municipality prepares for a comprehensive inspection and permanent repairs to the electrical system and access roads.
