Siwan firecracker explosion kills at least five in Bihar

A massive explosion at a house-cum-manufacturing unit in Alampur village, Siwan district, killed at least five people on Friday. The incident occurred at the residence of Mohammad Amiruddin Miyan, a firecracker trader, when a fire broke out among stored stockpiles, triggering a chain of explosions that lasted approximately two hours.

The force of the blasts caused a significant portion of the building to collapse onto a nearby road. While official reports from the Siwan Superintendent of Police confirmed five deaths, including women and a young girl, some local reports and residents suggested the death toll could be higher, with some accounts citing up to seven deaths.

In response to the incident, authorities have suspended the Jamo Bazar station house officer and a local chowkidar for alleged negligence. A special police team, forensic experts, and a bomb detection squad have been deployed to investigate whether the manufacturing was being conducted legally and if safety standards were being met.
