Six Cadillac electric SUVs destroyed in Texas dealership fire
A massive fire at the Frank Kent Cadillac dealership in Fort Worth, Texas, destroyed six Cadillac Escalade IQ electric SUVs and damaged two other vehicles. The blaze, which began on October 9, required firefighters to battle flames for approximately 18 hours to bring the situation under control.
Firefighters noted the extreme difficulty in extinguishing the fire due to the nature of electric vehicle (EV) batteries. The sealed construction of battery packs, designed to protect components from the elements, can hinder cooling efforts during a fire. Additionally, the risk of thermal runaway—where battery cells heat up uncontrollably—can cause fires to reignite even after visible flames are suppressed.
No injuries were reported, and the fire was contained before it could spread to nearby businesses or surrounding properties. The destroyed Escalade IQ models are high-end luxury EVs produced by General Motors.
