Six dead in bus crash near Constantine, Algeria

A bus carrying workers slipped off the road and fell into a wadi on National Route 79 near the commune of Ibn Ziad (Ben Ziad) in the Constantine wilaya early Thursday morning. The accident left six people dead and injured between 19 and 22 others, who were taken to nearby hospitals. Rescue teams from the secondary unit of the Ibn Ziad district, supported by additional units, arrived at about 05:19 and provided first aid before evacuating the victims.

Wali of Constantine Abdelkhalek Sayouda visited the Dr Hafid Boudjemaa "El Bir" hospital and the CHU "Ben Badis" to check on the injured and oversee their care. The crash follows two other deadly bus accidents in Algeria within the past week – a July 31 incident in Boumerdès that killed 28 and injured 41, and an August 1 crash in Timimoun with four deaths and 43 injuries – raising renewed concerns over road safety and the effectiveness of recent traffic‑law reforms.
