Moldova and Romania authorities investigate student assault and teenage violence
In Moldova, the Technical University of Moldova (UTM) and the Ministry of Education and Research have launched investigations following the assault of a 19-year-old student in Chișinău. The victim was reportedly beaten and subjected to humiliating treatment by a group of five youths near student dormitories. UTM has convened its ethics and professional deontological commission, stating it maintains a “zero tolerance” policy toward violence and bullying. Six individuals have been detained in connection with the incident.
In Romania, separate criminal incidents have been reported. In Mangalia, a 26-year-old man without a driver's license was detained after a high-speed police chase that ended with him driving onto a beach in Saturn while under the influence of alcohol. His breathalyzer test showed 0.80 mg/l of alcohol. Additionally, a 15-year-old girl in Mangalia was physically assaulted and humiliated by a group of teenagers following a social media challenge, leading to the arrest of a 19-year-old and the placement of a minor under house arrest.
