Six diners – three men and three women – ordered four lobsters and a fruits de mer seafood platter at The Oyster Shack in Bigbury, Devon, on 25 July. The bill amounted to almost £600, but the party left the restaurant without paying and fled in a black Range Rover.
The restaurant’s owner, Kieron Vanstone, tried repeatedly to contact the diners, set a deadline for a response and then handed all the information, including the vehicle’s registration noted by another customer, to Devon and Cornwall Police. The restaurant’s CCTV system was not operational during the incident. As of 29 July, the diners had not replied to the owner’s attempts, and police investigations remain ongoing.
