Six family members killed in San Pedro Sula house fire

A house fire swept through a home in the El Carmen village of San Pedro Sula early Wednesday, between 2:00 and 3:00 a.m., killing six members of the Cortés family. The victims were identified as siblings Jahir (17), Daniela (19), Jairo (10), Isaías (6), Mayra (7) and their six‑month‑old baby Madison Charlotte. Their mother survived because she slept in a separate room and escaped the flames.

Local authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze. Mayor Roberto Contreras said municipal teams have been providing assistance since 3:00 a.m., covering transportation, food, funeral costs and supplying coffins. The city also arranged cemetery space and will handle the burial preparations in coordination with the Public Ministry and forensic services.
