Six Flags announces safety upgrades following fatal rollercoaster accident

Six Flags CEO John Reilly has announced comprehensive safety measures across the company’s 34 North American amusement parks following a fatal incident on the Goliath rollercoaster at Six Flags Over Georgia. The accident, which occurred on October 12, resulted in the death of 42-year-old Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, who was ejected from the ride and struck other patrons before falling. Several other riders were injured in the event.

As part of the response, the company is adding seatbelts to the Goliath coaster and eight other similar rides across its portfolio. The Goliath, which reaches speeds of 70 mph, will remain closed until it passes rigorous safety reviews. Six Flags has engaged independent engineers and ride inspection specialists to conduct a thorough review of safety procedures and standards across all its attractions.
