Six injured in car collision on Statale 18 near Belmonte Calabro

Six people were injured in a head-on collision between a Volkswagen Golf and a Fiat Panda on the Statale 18 highway near Belmonte Calabro. The accident occurred around 1:30 AM.

The driver of the Volkswagen Golf, a young resident of Longobardi, was one of the injured. The Fiat Panda was carrying five passengers from Lago, including a woman, her children, and a relative.

Emergency services, including three ambulances from Paola, Fuscaldo, and Amantea, as well as firefighters, responded to the scene. All six victims were initially taken to the San Francesco hospital in Paola.

The driver of the Panda, a teacher from Lago, is in serious condition with a sternal fracture and a cerebral hemorrhage. She has been transferred to the Annunziata hospital in Cosenza for specialized care. The other five individuals are reported to be in stable condition with no immediate life-threatening injuries. The Paola highway police are investigating the cause of the crash.
