Six Mantuan scouts rescued by helicopter in the Modenese Apennines

Six members of a Mantuan scouting group – five minors and a 22‑year‑old leader – lost their way after entering a dense forest near Fontanaluccia in the municipality of Frassinoro, Modenese Apennines, on the night of 31 July‑1 August. Using a mobile phone signal they called the fire service, prompting an immediate response.

Fire‑fighter teams from Frassinoro, Pievepelago and a night‑vision equipped helicopter from Bologna located the group and hoisted them to safety in three trips, as the aircraft could carry only two passengers at a time. The scouts were taken to the Romita sports field in the Civago district of Reggio Emilia, where medical personnel performed routine checks. All six were unharmed and required no hospitalisation.
