Six people die in Veracruz after inhaling generator fumes
A family of six, including four adults and two minors, died in a rural area of Las Choapas, Veracruz, after allegedly inhaling toxic gases from a gasoline generator. The incident occurred during the early hours of Monday at a ranch located near kilometer 22 of the Las Choapas-Ocozocuatla highway.
Preliminary reports indicate the family had been without electricity since Sunday due to power outages caused by a cold front. To maintain household activities, they operated a gasoline-powered generator inside their home. The device remained running while the family slept, leading to a buildup of combustion gases.
Workers and milk collectors discovered the bodies on Monday morning when they arrived at the ranch and found no response from the inhabitants. Local police, forensic services, and agents from the Veracruz State Attorney General's Office (FGE) arrived to secure the scene and process the area. The remains were transported to the local Medical Forensic Service (Semefo) for autopsies to officially certify the cause of death.
