Six people found in shipping container at Rosslare Europort
Six people, believed to be Algerian, were discovered inside a shipping container at Rosslare Europort in County Wexford. The group, consisting of five men and one juvenile, arrived from Zeebrugge, Belgium, aboard the vessel MS Lismore.
The discovery followed a distress call made while the vessel was still en route to Ireland. Upon docking, emergency services, including the National Ambulance Service and immigration officials, responded to the scene. Three of the individuals were taken to Wexford General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries; while some have been discharged, three remain under medical care.
A man in his 40s was arrested by Gardaí on Friday in connection with the incident and is being questioned at a station in Co Wexford. Two of the adults have been refused permission to land in Ireland, while the juvenile is receiving support. The Garda National Immigration Bureau is assisting in the ongoing investigation into the circumstances of how the group was loaded into the container.
