Sixth drowning in 40 days at Okanagan Lake claims another victim
A man who was swimming at Hot Sands Beach on Okanagan Lake in Kelowna was pulled from the water on July 29, 2026 and later died at Kelowna General Hospital on July 30, according to the BC Coroners Service. The death marks the sixth drowning in the lake over the previous 40 days.
Police investigators from the Kelowna RCMP concluded the incident involved no criminal activity. Earlier fatalities on the lake included an American kayaker on June 20, a drowning at Poplar Point on June 29, a death at Mushroom Beach on July 6, a 45‑year‑old man tubing without a life‑jacket on July 11, and a 67‑year‑old participant in the Across The Lake swim on July 18.
