Sixto Morales Núñez arrested in Colombia near Venezuelan border

Retired Venezuelan National Guard General Sixto Morales Núñez was arrested in the Arauca department of Colombia while allegedly attempting to leave Venezuela covertly.

Colombian National Police, specifically the GAULA group, intercepted Morales Núñez near the José Antonio Páez International Bridge, which connects Venezuela's Apure state with Colombia. He was traveling as a passenger in a taxi when he was identified at a checkpoint. Authorities reported finding a firearm and 24 rounds of 9mm ammunition in his possession.

Morales Núñez, a former General of Division who held various administrative and military roles, including directing an office within the Ministry of Public Works, faces legal determination in Colombia regarding his movement and potential judicial requirements. Some reports suggest the arrest may also involve allegations of corruption related to large sums of money.
