Sixto Salamanca Jiménez detained four days after release
Sixto José Salamanca Jiménez, a political prisoner who had been incarcerated for nearly seven years, was detained again on August 18, 2026, just four days after his release from the Rodeo III Penitentiary Center.
According to reports from NGOs including the Comité por la Libertad de los Presos Políticos (Clippve), Realidad Helicoide, and Justicia, Encuentro y Perdón, the detention occurred at approximately 12:43 p.m. in Cúpira, Miranda state. Salamanca was traveling on public transport with his wife from Caracas when the vehicle was intercepted at a checkpoint.
Family members and human rights organizations claim that authorities did not present an arrest warrant or provide a justification for the detention. Salamanca had been held since December 2019 as part of the ‘Venezuela Honor y Gloria 2019’ case. He was released on August 14 under precautionary measures before being re-detained. He is reportedly being held at the Cúpira Municipal Police headquarters.
