SJ to equip Swedish SJ 3000 train fleet with satellite Wi-Fi
Swedish rail operator SJ has reached an agreement with Icomera to equip its entire fleet of 20 SJ 3000 trains with satellite-supported Wi-Fi. This initiative aims to eliminate connectivity blind spots in areas where traditional cellular signals are weak, such as rural regions, mountainous terrains, and tunnels.
The project follows successful pilot testing conducted in late 2025, which demonstrated the technology's effectiveness on routes like Stockholm-Oslo. The new system will leverage low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to provide consistent, high-quality internet access for passengers.
Installation of the satellite-enabled systems is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026. SJ expects the enhanced connectivity service to be fully operational across the entire SJ 3000 fleet by early 2027.
