Sjenica residents protest coal delivery delays
Residents of Sjenica are expressing significant frustration over multi-month delays in receiving coal that was reportedly paid for as early as April. The complaints center on the Štavalj Lignite Mine, with citizens demanding answers regarding the order of pickups and the availability of heating fuel.
Local reports suggest that while some buyers, including those organized through unions, have recently received their coal, many others, particularly pensioners, remain without fuel. There are also allegations that coal is more readily available through private sellers at significantly higher prices, with reported rates between 150 and 180 euros per ton, compared to approximately 80 euros at the mine.
Citizens have raised questions regarding the priority of deliveries, noting observations of full trucks leaving the mine on weekends. However, there is currently no official documentation to confirm whether irregularities in the distribution process have occurred.
