Sjømatbedriftene calls for energy package to secure food production

The seafood industry organization Sjømatbedriftene is calling on the Norwegian government to include an energy package in the 2027 state budget to protect food production. Managing Director Robert H. Eriksson argues that limited power resources should prioritize food production over data centers to ensure national food security and coastal employment.

The proposed energy package includes several measures: electricity support for the food industry based on an EU model, compensation for high grid rental costs, state-funded grid development, and a national power plan. The organization suggests a tiered support model where the state covers 70 to 85 percent of additional costs when electricity prices exceed certain thresholds.
