SK Ecoplant to sell SK Oceanplant stake for 410 billion won

SK Ecoplant has signed a definitive agreement to sell its entire 35.62% stake in SK Oceanplant to The Ocean Asset Management for approximately 410 billion won. This sale marks a significant shift in SK Ecoplant’s business strategy as it seeks to pivot toward semiconductor and AI infrastructure, including advanced facilities, materials, and industrial gases.

SK Oceanplant, a specialist in offshore wind substructures and shipbuilding, will see its majority ownership change to The Ocean Asset Management, with Ohsung Advanced Materials participating as a co-investor. The transaction follows a year of negotiations and aims to improve SK Ecoplant’s financial structure by using the proceeds to repay debt.

The sale has drawn attention from local authorities in Goseong County, where SK Oceanplant is a major employer. While local leaders expressed concerns regarding job security and regional investment within the Opportunity Development Special Zone, the new owners have pledged to expand facilities, prioritize local hiring, and implement vocational training programs to support the regional economy.
