SK Hynix and Samsung Propel South Korea's KOSPI to Record High on AI Memory Chip Demand

South Korea's benchmark KOSPI index closed at 8,864.24, up 1.58% (137.64 points), setting a new all‑time high. The rally was led by SK Hynix, which broke the 2.5 million‑won per‑share barrier for the first time, and by Samsung Electronics, both boosting the market.

Analysts attribute the surge to growing artificial‑intelligence demand for high‑bandwidth memory (HBM) and other storage chips. The strong performance is seen as a market signal that AI‑driven workloads are shifting the semiconductor supply chain focus from earlier chip‑shortage cycles to sustained memory‑chip capacity expansion.
