SK On Hungary fined 100 million forints over safety violations

SK On Hungary Kft. has been fined 100 million forints following the discovery of severe occupational safety violations at its battery factory in Ivánc. Authorities determined that the company seriously endangered the health and physical integrity of 65 employees.

Key findings from the investigation include the failure to conduct mandatory annual air pollution measurements in the assembly department since August 2024. Previous measurements revealed nickel concentrations significantly exceeding legal limits. Furthermore, the company failed to provide adequate personal protective equipment; workers were issued FFP2 masks and latex gloves instead of the required P3 respirators and chemical-resistant gloves.

Additional violations involved the lack of separation between contaminated work clothing and clean street clothing, increasing the risk of secondary exposure. Between 2022 and 2026, 59 instances of excessive nickel exposure were identified, which the employer reportedly failed to report to occupational safety authorities or investigate internally. SK On Hungary Kft. stated it has since taken necessary measures to review and reinforce its safety practices and protective equipment protocols.
