SK Telecom AI technology supports South Korean fencing success
SK Telecom (SKT) has supported the South Korean national fencing team for 24 years, contributing a cumulative 36 billion won toward training equipment, international competition support, and Olympic preparation. During the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, the team secured 10 medals across all disciplines, including sabre, épée, and foil.
A key factor in this performance was the first-time implementation of ‘SKT-FAN’, an AI-driven tactical analysis system developed by the company. Utilizing computer vision and motion capture technology, the system automates the detection of scoring moments, generates highlights, and performs non-sensor AI motion capture. The technology aims to reduce the repetitive video analysis workload for coaching staff by up to 90%.
Beyond fencing, SKT sponsors various athletes under ‘Team SKT’, including swimmers, weightlifters, and track athletes, who have collectively earned 5 gold, 7 silver, and 6 bronze medals as of late September 2026.
