SK Telecom and Upstage launch AI cybersecurity consortium

SK Telecom and Upstage have launched a dedicated AI cybersecurity consortium consisting of 11 institutions, including major information security firms and universities. The group aims to enhance cybersecurity capabilities by applying SK Telecom’s ‘A. X K’ series and Upstage’s ‘Solar’ AI models to tasks such as malware analysis, vulnerability detection, and security monitoring.

The consortium will utilize massive datasets, including 2.5 petabytes of security data from AhnLab and real-time threat analysis from SK Shieldus, to train these models. To ensure safety, the models will undergo ‘mutual red teaming’ where they attack and evaluate each other, while universities like Korea University and Soongsil University conduct independent performance and safety verifications.

Separately, KT is developing ‘Modu-ui AI’ (Everyone’s AI), a service that integrates various domestic AI models to handle diverse tasks. Rather than relying on a single model, KT will use a ‘Token Factory’ technology to assign specific tasks—such as long-form analysis via Upstage’s Solar or 3D content generation via NC AI—to the most suitable model. KT plans to begin closed beta testing this month, with a goal of launching a full public service by December.
