SK Telecom uses AI to create walking routes for independence activists

SK Telecom, in collaboration with the Independence Hall of Korea, has launched a campaign titled "Remembering 18,776 Independence Activists" to commemorate the 81st anniversary of Korea's liberation. The initiative uses AI technology to restore the historical activities of over 18,000 independence activists and convert them into physical walking and running courses.

Using its proprietary AI foundation model, A.X K2, SK Telecom analyzed records from the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs' electronic archives. This data was combined with location-based information to develop 10 different courses spanning 44.6 km, ranging from Seoul to Jeju. The routes highlight various aspects of the independence movement, including the roles of women, the importance of education, and student-led protests.

Public figures, including SK Telecom CEO Jeong Jae-heon, singer Sean, and marathoner Lee Bong-ju, participated in the inaugural runs. The campaign also encourages public participation through the RunDay app, allowing citizens to walk or run the designated historical paths.
