Skanderbeg biopic ‘Son of God’ planned for 2027 release

A new international cinematic project titled ‘Son of God: Scanderbeg’ is being developed to portray the life of the Albanian national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu. The biographical epic aims for a global release in 2027, utilizing a modern Hollywood-style production to bring the historical figure's tactical genius and struggle for freedom to a worldwide audience.

The project involves American filmmaker Cyrus Nowrasteh, along with Gian-Carlo Ochoa and Mark Gjelaj. Promotional material for the film was reportedly showcased at an Albanian-American event in New York. The production seeks to fulfill a long-standing desire within the Albanian diaspora for a high-budget, contemporary portrayal of Skanderbeg, comparable in scale to films like ‘Braveheart’.

While the 1953 Soviet-Albanian co-production ‘The Great Warrior Skanderbeg’ remains a significant cultural landmark, this new endeavor intends to introduce the historical leader to a modern, global demographic through an international lens.
